John Dix: Workshop and Exhibit

Workshop & Lecture
Saturday, August 4th 2007
10AM - 4PM
Hosted By Peter Callas
at the
Peter Callas Studio
Belvidere, NJ

John Dix has a curiosity for experience, and has been traveling his whole life. Leaving it up to serendipity he has landed in Japan, and has been a working potter for the last fifteen years. He makes beautiful tableware with Shino glaze, as well as art vessels; all woodfired. This is a rare opportunity to see John work and talk about his experiences abroad. He is a highly accomplished artist, and will host a very insightful event.

“My work in clay is much like my travels; both the making and firings are always an adventure. I have starting points without a clear finish line; Over the years my forms have gotten simpler; less ornate, with little conscious decoration on them, but it is something more satisfying on a personal creative level.”

Hosted In an Air Conditioned 18th Century Barn.

And from Robert Yellin’s e-yakimono:

If you happen to find yourself in Osaka this week and next you would do well to stop by John Dix’s large one-man exhibition at Daimaru, Shinsaibashi; the exhibition starts on May 30th and runs until June 5th. Dix creates unglazed high-fired stoneware as well as glazed works for the table and Tea room. As Peter Callas says, “He is a highly accomplished artist.”

Willi Singleton’s Spring Firing

New pots from Willi’s spring firing will be on sale at his Pine Creek Pottery on Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17, 2007 from 12 noon to 6pm.

Pine Creek Pottery is located at 845 Hawk Mountain Road, Kempton PA 19529, 610-756-6387.

This is always a pleasant way to spend some time in the country, see a working wood-fired kiln, its splendid results and taste some home baked goodies. Willi is always interesting to talk to and learn something about his natural “slow” approach to pottery making. Besides his wonderful large vases and painterly plates he offers lots of everyday pots to grace your table and add an extra dimension to your morning coffee.
