American Contemporary Ceramics

$2,500.00

Willi’s technical as well as his creative skills are evident in this generously proportioned large jar. The form is decorated with his signature swirls of glaze using both from creek clay and cornstalk ash glazes that create a colorful abstract. The jar has one side of glossy color, the result of ash settling on the side facing the mouth of the kiln during firing; the other sides are matte finished. Four strong handles complement the well-considered lip. Colors of red and yellow ochre as well as ...click for details

American Contemporary Ceramics

$900.00

Besides his abstract extruded forms, Malcolm creates exquisite pieces that relate to more traditional ceramic forms. This vase was wheel-thrown in two pieces and joined together, the resulting seam easily felt on the interior of the vase. The temoku glaze is a classic combination of deep black and brown with deep red brush strokes breaking through. Signed by the artist. 15.25h x 12.5” diameter (38.7 x 31.6cm)

Jeff takes a holistic approach to his work where concept, material and technique work together to produce unique results. Whether his forms are traditional in origin or abstract forms improvised during the creative process, his surfaces take on painterly effects that fit the form. Whether this piece is abstract or architecturally referenced, the surface becomes a painting in three dimensions. The anagama firing has produced a palette of oranges, ochres and browns that interact with the texture a ...click for details

Malcolm is well known for his traditional forms. He also creates another body of work that utilizes extruded brick clay, a strong abstract use of form and low temperature firing. This piece is a good example of the exciting results he brings forth from his kiln. With a lower temperature the natural ash does not form the dripping glaze we often see, but treats the surface to a number of subtle color effects. Various tones of a red-brown palette play over the surface as well as an almost metallic ...click for details

American Contemporary Ceramics

$1,800.00

Peter returns often to this form and has produced many exciting variations including vases with two necks. The combination of thrown and carved forms provides the base for applied slip and sgraffito decoration. The decoration contrasts with the clay body that shows orange flashing from the firing and the “ears” provide a horizontal thrust to an otherwise severely vertical form. Signed by the artist. 17h x 7.5” diameter (43 x 19cm)

American Contemporary Ceramics

$3,200.00

In Paul’s work, the sculptural qualities of his forms dominate whether he is starting with traditional forms, creating monumental outdoor pieces or exercising his wit on everyday mundane objects. This auger with square hole falls into the latter category. It is an otherwise ordinary object that has been transformed by his vision into a rich visual form that controls the space around it. The form is not machine tool precise and appears to be discovered rather than made. Green, brown and black gla ...click for details

American Contemporary Ceramics

$1,250.00

Tacy worked as an independent artist and showed in many galleries in Japan for many years before returning to the United States. She is currently planning a new kiln in North Carolina. Her creative approach has always exploited strong forms that she alters or distresses. Her work shows a very natural sensibility and results in pieces that transcend their traditional beginnings and avoid forced artifice. This jar’s powerful undulating lip provides a counterpoint to the simple surface decoration a ...click for details

Tim often explores the creative possibility of clay with forms that are made with an unrefined clay body that contains impurities usually screened out. His forceful handling of this clay form with its rhythmic carving is a perfect match for the resulting rough textures. The colors of yellow and deep red add to the liveliness of this piece. 5h x 7.5w x 7”d (12.7 x 19 x 17.8cm)

Willi’s creative work is profoundly influenced by the environment around him and by his deep belief in the value of the local materials he uses. His aesthetic approach is the result of integrating his own response to these materials and their response to his creative impulse. The soft rolling hills of Pennsylvania and the swaying bamboo and grasses near the kiln have all been sources of material and inspiration. This plate has cornstalk ash glaze and creek clay glaze that combine with natural as ...click for details
